To overnight news now and a pedestrian is fighting for his life in hospital this morning after being struck by a car in Coodanup, near Mandurah.

The incident occurred around 9.40pm on Steerforth Drive.

A 20-year-old man has been rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

Forensic teams scoured the area for evidence and clues to help lead them to the driver, who fled the scene.

Mandurah Detectives have since arrested a 37-year-old man.

Police have also seized a white Hyundai Getz.

And it’s not the only record to tumble, with Perth seeing above-average rainfall for each month of winter this year for the first time in more than three decades.

August is just 10 millimetres away from recording a record rainfall of more than 186 millimetres.
