Netflix poaches Amanda Duthie from Stan as new head of local content

Netflix Australia has appointed Amanda Duthie as its new head of content for Australia and New Zealand, four months after the surprise departure of former content chief Que Minh Luu.
The appointment of one of Australia’s most experienced and respected production executives is a major coup for Netflix but will come as a blow to rival streamer Stan*, whose content slate Duthie has overseen since 2021.

Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn on Monday, Minyoung Kim, Netflix vice president of content for the Asia-Pacific region (and Duthie’s new boss), said she was “delighted” at the imminent arrival of the new local content director.
“Amanda’s exceptional track record as a creative, and her highly respected leadership within the local screen industry, impressed me deeply,” said Tokyo-based Kim.
“I was particularly struck by her knowledge, passion and expertise, and I look forward to working closely with her to continue the success of the ANZ slate at Netflix.”
Also announced on Monday was the appointment of Katherine Slattery as content manager. Formerly scripted development manager at Matchbox, Slattery will work under Duthie in her new role.
Duthie, who is a former director of the Adelaide Film Festival and head of scripted at SBS, has overseen an extensive slate at Stan that has included both scripted and unscripted, with titles including Wolf Like Me, The Tourist, Bad Behaviour, Black Snow, Transfusion, C*A*U*G*H*T, Last Light, Ten Pound Poms, Totally Completely Fine, Nude Tuesday, Year Of and Bump.
Duthie said she was “really excited to be joining the Netflix ANZ content team. As a fan, I’ve loved seeing how Netflix has helped shape the entertainment scene with such a great mix of local and global shows.
“I’ve always been passionate about telling local stories, so can’t wait to build on what’s already been achieved and work with all the talented creative partners across ANZ to take our content even further.”
Stan and this masthead are owned by Nine.
